The Crazies (2010)

In a remake of George Romero’s 1973 film, insanity caused by a mysterious virus via the U.S. government returns, but this B movie is executed at a high level, with understated performances by Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell and a tense car wash scene.

Crazy Heart (2009)

As tired, drunk country singer Bad Blake, Jeff Bridges performs his songs (written by T-Bone Burnett) like he has been singing them his whole life. He is great, but the movie is just good. Robert Duvall shows up — a nod to his country singer in “Tender Mercies.”
