Star Trek Into Darkness [2013]

J.J. Abrams makes well-executed but benign PG-13 pop culture, and he has done it again with his second “Star Trek” movie, which seems like just the second part of a reboot. Kirk cries in the first act, then Spock shows he has feelings in the third.

Red (2010)

Morgan Freeman sums up the spy game, saying “we’re getting the band back together,” and it’s a likeable bunch — Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren (with a machine gun) and Brian Cox — in a likeable movie. It’s likeable but not much more.

Star Trek (2009)

The 11th movie based on the cult television series re-starts the franchise — a perfunctory but well-executed exercise complete with childhood backstories. But illogically, this Spock is an unlikable, vengeful Vulcan, and Leonard Nimoy’s appearance feels forced.
