Piranha (2010)

The problem with this exploitation remake/homage to “Piranha” (1978) isn’t the gratuitous blood and breasts. The problem is execution. Richard Dreyfus’ cameo — and eventual death — in the first scene hints at 90 minutes of fun, then the movie disappoints.

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard (2009)

Jeremy Piven — a real American badass who loves Bob Seger — leads a group underachieving car salesmen in a Will Ferrell-style farce with Ving Rhames, strippers, alligators and a 10-year-old in a man’s body. Ed Helms steals a few scenes, too.

Dawn of the Dead (2004)

In an update of George Romero’s 1978 classic, the zombies are fast, and they’re chasing Sarah Polley, Ving Rhames, Jake Weber and Mekhi Phifer. This “Dawn of the Dead” delivers better acting and special effects but not the same sense of play in the mall.
