In a movie about “Star Wars” fanboys that could appeal only to “Star Wars” fanboys, four self-indulgent geeks, joined later by Kristen Bell, travel from Ohio to George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch in California to steal an early copy of “Star Wars: Episode I.”

He’s Just Not That Into You (2009)

Ginnifer Goodwin — a cute, desperate gal — can’t get a second date in a movie that plays like a too-sweet sitcom with hugs and lessons. It’s just not believable that Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly and Drew Barrymore could be so insecure.

My Bloody Valentine 3-D (2009)

In a remake of the 1981 slasher film, director Patrick Lussier invents new ways for a miner’s pickax to puncture the head and chest area — in 3-D. But the young cast is too pretty, their acting too wooden to make it more than a solid genre movie.

The Unborn (2009)

The clichéd horror film exploits a heroine in skimpy underwear, the Holocaust and creepy little children to minimal effect and ends with the straight-faced assurance that “no actual Torah scrolls were destroyed or damaged in the making of this motion picture.”

Yes Man (2008)

“Liar Liar” re-imagined with the truth-telling parable replaced by saying “yes” to life and all of its questions. Jim Carrey works his ass off again, but it’s not enough. There’s no point, no life-affirming reason to say “yes” other than the inevitable happy ending.

Death Race (2008)

Director Paul W.S. Anderson re-imagines Roger Corman’s “Death Race 2000” (1975) in a prison. The script called for a leading man who is Bronson tough and McQueen cool, and Jason Statham is both. Joan Allen as the warden and Ian McShane add credibility.
