The Invention of Lying (2009)

Ricky Gervais’ first film isn’t as smart or funny as his HBO series “The Office” and “Extras,” but he fashions a clever premise — a world without lying — into some great moments and a gentle commentary on religion. Louie C.K. is especially good.

  1. I would say it's a tad more than just "gentle" commentary on religion. Unfortunately, the movie takes a downward turn for the worst when the movie goes from being a commentary on the shallowness and callousness of people and instead centers on the a supposed willy-nilly "Man in the Sky." Loved the first half of the movie; couldn't wait for the movie to end. A shame.
