In possibly his best performance, Burt Reynolds is sweet and sensitive in a romantic comedy about life after divorce. Dumped by Candice Bergen, Reynolds portrays the uneasiness of dating again with the equally wary Jill Clayburgh. Bergen performs three songs.

Burt Reynolds is charming and authentic as a sellout quarterback in prison for stealing his girlfriend’s car. The prisoners play the guards, and director Robert Aldrich mines the game for comedy and brutality to produce a highly enjoyable sports movie.
